Deer Valley Airport News
- The City has provided both oil and solvent dump containers on the
airfield. The EPA has raised a concern that solvent is being dumped
into the used oil containers. The effect of this is that a significantly
increased processing cost to the airport is assessed. In the era of
increased "green" awareness, please, do not dump solvents into the
used oil container. This will keep our airport operating costs down
and thus your fees.
- Scottsdale Airport (SDL) is scheduled to be closed July 6th through
16th. This will result in a marked increase in small and medium business
jets/turboprops using our airport. Plan for a potential incrase in
arriving and departing traffic.
- Random hangar inspections are currently underway. The usual failure
items still are: extension cords and appliances plugged in and non-aviation
items stored in the hangar. You will be notified if you pass or fail.
It would be wise to pre-inspect your hangar to avoid compliance issues.
- Current projects planned for implementation soon are: elevated guard
lights at hot-spot taxiway/runway interesctions and runway safety area
improvements. Work on these projects are scheduled to start in a few
months.
- The EPA has a lead monitoring unit stationed near the CAP facility.
It will be there for some time. This is part of the EPA's research
into the potential effects of leaded fuels (100LL) on the air quality.
As you should know, there is a strong push to eliminate 100LL in favor
of alternative fuels. This sampling station is one of several located
at general aviation airports around the country. If you are not familiar
with this issue, check out the AOPA and EAA web sited for this topic.
This issue has the potential to greatly modify general aviation in
the future.
State Aviation Fund
On June 2, 2010, AzAA (Arizona Airport Associaction)
President Casey Denny sent a letter to ADOT Director John Halikowski
objecting to a pending $6.5 million fund transfer from the State Aviation
Fund. While acknowledging the difficult postion ADOT and the rest of
state government is in, President Denny reiterated AzAA's position
that aviation funds should be reserved, as per Arizona state law, for
aviation purposes. Read
a copy of his letter.
