DVPA "Quick and Current" January 16, 2010
The 5th Annual Aviation Day will take place at the State Capitol on Jan. 20. With increasing state budget woes, this is a golden opportunity for DVPA members to stress the importance of general aviation funding with our legislators.
If you can, plan on being there. More details on the DVPA web page.
Airport management has had several issues recently with tenants painting additional guide lines on the airport pavement. This is strictly prohibited and a violation of the Phoenix City code.
Notice of Violations will be issued if this occurs and you could be assessed the repair cost. If you have any questions please call Airport Operations at (623) 869-0977.
The NEW Northwest Run-up and Apron Area has been completed and will open on February. 1, 2010.
The purpose of the run-up area is to complete all necessary preflight run-ups and checklists PRIOR to taxing to the north Runway 7L for departure. This new area IS CONTROLLED BY THE FAA TOWER on Ground Frequency (121.8 MHz.)
More details, and a map of the area, is located on the DVPA web page.
Luke’s Special Air Traffic Rule (SATR) will be officially effective May 6. All VFR aircraft operating in the vicinity will have to establish communication with the Luke Radar Approach Control prior to entering a Special Air Traffic Rule (SATR) area and maintain communication while operating in the area.
A map of the SATR area and more details are available on the DVPA web page.
Reminder: the DVPA Hospitality Hangar will be Saturday, Jan. 23, on the north side at hangar 49-4 (near self-service fuel) from 8 to 11 a.m.
The event will showcase Sibran Fuel and a Texaco representative who will discuss fuel properties and related issues.
The Challenge Air event at DVT originally scheduled for early February has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 24. Local pilot volunteers are needed to fly "challenged children" on short 20 minute flights in the DVT area similar to what is done with EAA's Young Eagles program. The requirements are slightly different due to the fact that almost all of the children have special needs. This will be the second year for holding a Challenge Air event at DVT. Last year’s event had 115 families participate and was a huge success for the participating pilots as well as a “once in a lifetime” experience for the children.
Additionally if any members or their spouses would be willing to help with ground activities or loading and unloading the aircraft that would be greatly appreciated.
For additional information and to volunteer, contact DVPA member and Challenge Air Coordinator Arthur Rosen via email: n13ar@cox.net
